Universal Designs are at it again.  They promised a replica suit for those biker fans of TRON LEGACY who fancied themselves as Lightcycle riders, and two months ahead of the movie’s release they’ve delivered!

A ladies and gents design are available mirroring the Disney film’s lead character, Sam Flynn, and his virtual friend Quorra.

Tron Legacy Lightcycle Concept Art

Disney has released concept art for some of cinema’s most famous motorcycles, the Lightcycles from TRON.  These images are from the sequel TRON : LEGACY due to be released in December 2010 in 3D.  One of the earliest stories featured on Ride The Wild Wind was the unveiling of full size mock ups of the bikes at Comic-Con last year, see here.

The Lightcycle has been an inspiration for custom bike builders since it first appeared in the original 1982 movie with designs such as the iCare shown below.

Looking forward to seeing Lightcycles in action again this Xmas.. click for bigger images..

TRON for those who don’t know is a 1982 science fiction action film by Walt Disney Pictures.  It starred Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn (and his program counterpart inside the electronic world, Clu), Bruce Boxleitner as Tron and his User Alan Bradley, Cindy Morgan as Yori and Dr. Lora Baines, and Dan Shor as Ram. David Warner plays all three main antagonists: the program Sark, his User Ed Dillinger, and the voice of the Master Control Program. It was written and directed by Steven Lisberger.  Back in 1982 TRON was the film to see with the most startling special effects showing the early computer graphics that would become the biggest thing in movies.

In the sequel TRON : LEGACY Sam Flynn (Garret Hedlund), a rebellious 27-year-old, is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin Flynn (Bridges), a man once known as the world’s leading video-game developer. When Sam investigates a strange signal sent from the old Flynn’s Arcade — a signal that could only come from his father– he finds himself pulled into a digital world where Kevin has been trapped for 20 years. With the help of the fearless warrior Quorra (Wilde), father and son embark on a life-or-death journey across a cyber universe — a universe created by Kevin himself that has become far more advanced with vehicles, weapons, landscapes and a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to prevent their escape.

Want to look ‘Super’ on your bike?

Okay I’m (Editor Nick) letting my geek self out just a little here but it’s all good fun and still motorcycle related I assure you.  Motorcycle suits makers Universal Designs create replica leather suits of famous film costumes, specifically superhero costumes.  Previously they released a limited editon run of their suit based on Batman’s armour featured in the movie ‘The Dark Knight’.

Their latest re-creation is of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine character from the X-Men series of films, which while not as flamboyant as the Batman suit, still looks pretty good.

However what I’m really looking forward to is the currently under development suits based on Walt Disney Pictures TRON sequel, TRON LEGACY….

Forget your yellow high-vis vest, who the hell could miss you lit up like this!

Tron Legacy – Everyone wants a Light Cycle

I’m letting my geeky side through today, it’s Friday after all, and we’re featuring probably the coolest virtual bikes ever rendered, the TRON Light Cycle.  Actually this is a bit of nostalgia for RTWW as one of the first posts was on this very subject.

Christmas 2010 sees the release of the TRON sequel TRON LEGACY with update effects but what looks to be the same awesomely designed virtual world, including the all important Light Cycle.

You can see footage of the bike in action in the concept reel below as well as in the new TRON LEGACY trailer that follows;

Have you noticed how futuristic bikes recently seem to feature hubless wheels, not sure why this is but you can also find this feature on Captain Kirk’s ride from the 2009 Star Trek film.

Having a scan around I found that this could well be the shape of things to come, with Amen Motorcycles ‘Hubless Monster’;

Given that Ducati is the current king of hi-tech motorcycling, and the sharp eyed amongst you will have noticed a very nice Ducati Sport 1000 in the ‘real world’ at the start of the TRON LEGACY trailer, …

… could the next Ducati Multistrada be hubless? …. Go on Ducati we dare ya!

Have a great weekend everyone, Ride Safe!

It’s a bit geeky, but utterly cool!..

We’re briefly entering the realms of fantasy for this post, with a look
into the video game world of TRON : LEGACY, sequel to 80’s classic
TRON. The coolest thing about the original TRON was the bikes used in
the video game world the characters fight in, or Lightcycles as they’re known. Not your standard V-Twin and a little more advanced than the
upcoming Honda tech-fest V4s, but when you see them in action you’ll
definately want one!

Geeks go nuts for the ComicCon reveal of a full size mock up Lightcycle..
